Founded in 2009 by David Beattie, Slot Mods is a Detroit-based outfit that specializes in handcrafting 1:32 scale, bespoke slot car tracks that are constructed using a spare-no-expense approach. Starting at $75,000, these meticulously built, highly-detailed circuits typically require a lengthy build time, however, right now one lucky individual has the opportunity to jump the line and acquire one of Slot Mods’ most impressive builds to date; a replica of the Circuit de la Sarthe as it appeared in 1971’s Le Mans — all housed inside a replica Porsche 917 endurance racer body.
Built entirely by hand, this two-lane slot car track is crafted from wood and features a slew of hyper-realistic models and figures, including some 19 different ‘70s era LM race car slot cars. Alongside a myriad of building and structures, grandstands, and race pits, other noteworthy details present include LED trackside lighting, aluminum Armco-style rails, and several iconic structures found at the circuit such as the Dunlop bridge, the Esso oil man, and the Martini barn. In addition to two stools, the entire track also comes with a pair of top-shelf transparent Professor Motor Brand slot car controllers.
Built roughly a decade ago, this massive and highly detailed slot car track hides beneath a replica body of a Porsche 917 race car. Utilizing a clamshell design set on a trio of hinges, the cover sports a power-operated opening mechanism that can be activated via surface-mounted toggle switches or an included wireless remote control. Wearing a classic orange and powder blue Gulf Oil livery, the body of the five-liter racer sports near identical measurements to an actual 917, with the track measuring 13’ long x 6’ wide — only 2.6’ shorter than the actual race car.
Located in Waltham, Massachusetts, this Porsche 917 Le Mans Slot Car Raceway by Slot Mods is currently up for auction on Bring a Trailer, where, as of the time of writing bidding has reached $205,000.
